PARKER, AZ.--Tina Turner wasn't here to sing about it but, on Saturday night, rising lightweight contender Mercito "No Mercy" was rolling on the river.
Almost literally as the undefeated southpaw lightweight from Mandaue City, Cebu, Philippines by way of San Diego rendered a marvelous recital of his full range of boxing skills in dominating and dazzling hardcase veteran and two time Bam Bam Rios foe Manuel Perez over 10 rounds.
They battled in a cozy ring and outdoor arena at the Blue Water Resort & Casino, hard by the alluring Colorado River.
Gesta, who turns 24 in October, extended his pro record to 23-0-1 while Perez, who fought a mjaority draw against now world champ Rios and then was stopped in a close fight by the mouthy fighter out of Oxnard, drops to 16-7-1.
Gesta now headlines a Top Rank night before the Marquez-Pacquiao III card in Las Vegas on Nov. 11. That show will be held at Mandalay Bay while Marquez-Pacman Chapter 3 goes off across the street at the MGM Grand the following evening.
