MANILA, Philippines – Not even the rain could stop 8-division champion Manny Pacquiao from training.
The Filipino boxing superstar regularly jogs in Baguio City’s Burham Park as part of his preparations for the Juan Manuel Marquez fight.
“It’s ok. It’s part of my job, I need to jog,” Pacquiao said in Filipino.
On Monday, Pacquiao trained inside the Teacher’s Village compound together with sparring partner Jorge Linares, who is due for an October 15 fight.
Pacquiao said he expects good sparring sessions with Linares, who can mimic Marquez’s style.
“He moves fast,” Pacquiao said of his training partner. “He has the same style as Marquez.”
Co-trainer and best friend Buboy Fernandez said part of their work in this camp is finding ways to counter-punch Marquez.
"We need to focus on counter-punching Marquez’s right hand,” Fernandez said in Filipino.
Pacquiao will be facing Marquez for the third time on November 12 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
At stake in the bout is Pacquiao’s WBC welterweight crown. -- With a report from Maira Wallis, ABS-CBN North Luzon
